PROFESSIONAL CAREER CLASSIFICATION: ACTOR
I am sure many of you have read resumes where a person will tell you WHAT they are and not WHO they are. In doing so, they attempt to create this imaginary identity around their career. I have seen this with careers such as an accountant, an analyst, a therapist, a sales-man, and yes, even an executive. In the end though, that still does not answer the question of who they are.

This would be comparable to a dog barking, "I can roll over, sit, and play dead on command in three different languages! I have had three masters and fulfilled a different set of needs for each one! I am looking for a new master at this time, so anyone interested should look at my credentials and my pedigree."

This would be great if I were a dog!
However, I am not a dog! I am a gay man in a man's world who wants and needs the respect befitting any and all men (gay, straight, Christian, Jewish, Moslem.....................)

So, what am I and who am I? I am a 43 year-old gay male actor with a great deal of experience in many facets of living in today's ever-changing industrialized information hungry society!

I see myself as an ever-changing ever-growing humane human who is here to experience life to its fullest!  These life experiences in turn help any and all of my appearances and performances convey an austere sense of directness and security, making people quite aware of the fact that I have absolute control of whatever stage I am on.

I have included some of my skills and accomplishments in order to put a little detail, colour and sharpness into the self-portrait I am trying to create here! Just remember that any portrait I present to you is only ONE of the many frames in the suspense-filled motion picture I call: "My Life".

FOREIGN LANGUAGES – Learning, speaking, and writing many a foreign language is a deep passion of mine. To me it is a reminder of the times when Europe's elite frequently travelled and socialized throughout the historic cities of Paris, Vienna, Berlin, Copenhagen, Madrid, Barcelona and many more. Learning the histories, the languages, conversing with the peoples in their native tongue and experiencing their cities, geography, and customs takes me back to the days of yore and the magic that had given them their birth.

To me this is indeed a beautiful awakening experience and also presents an opportunity to effectively portray a varying assortment of other character roles, which would normally not be an option in my home country.

It also helps me to present selected roles of foreigners with cultural and national sensitivity. After all, as a German actor, I am very proud of my heritage and also quite aware of my country's history. I take great offence when the simple mentioning of my Germany ancestry / citizenship is immediately greeted with someone attempting to make me feel guilty for the holocaust and/or other atrocities of WWII.

FORMAL ACTOR TRAINING (OR LACK THEREOF):

To justify my lack of a formal training / education in Theatre arts, I would like to make reference to the mystic named OSHO!

It does not matter whether you paint, sculpt, or make shoes; whether you are a gardener, a farmer, a fisherman, a carpenter -- it does not matter. What matters is, "are you putting your very soul into what you are creating?" Then your creative products have something of the quality of divine.
Except creativity, there is nothing divine.

Creativity is the greatest rebellion in existence.

If you want to create, you have to get rid of all conditionings otherwise your creativity will be nothing but copying, it will be just a carbon copy. You can be creative only if you are an individual, you cannot create as a part of the mob psychology. The mob psychology is uncreative; it lives a life of drag, it knows no dance, no song, no joy; it is mechanical.

NEAR DEATH LIFE EXPERIENCE

July 25, 1984.It was on that day that I was hit by a car while bicycling and in that accident I had sustained:

1) Severe cerebral concussion and contusion
2) Right temporal bone fracture
3) Right basilar skull fracture
4) Left transverse humerus fracture, midshaft
5) Left transverse comminuted tibial and fibular fracture
6) Soft tissue infection, multiple sites, organisms, enterobacter cloacae, Enterobacter aerogenes, group D enterococcus, Klebsiells, oxytoca; and Bacillus subtilis
7) Bacteremia Organism, Salmonella enteritidis
8) Right retroperitoneal hematoma
9) Right acromioclavicular joint separation
10) Multiple abrasions and contusions
11) Aspiration bronchitis, organisms, Staph aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes and Pseudomonas putida

I was in a coma for 5 days, critical condition for 4 days and intensive care for 3 weeks. I was finally discharged from the last hospital on December 31, 1984. Once discharged and 2 weeks later after receiving permission from my orthopaedic surgeon that I could begin to walk again, I started on a personal quest to again be in the shape I was in on July 24, 1984, but I also had to come to realize that the injuries sustained in this accident had changed the man I was into another person. But now as during my unfortunate incarceration in hospitals, I just wanted to be helped so as to get back into the condition I was in before being hit by that car and not changed into a distorted version of that person by these so-called experts in therapy. They wanted to turn me into a typical American as had so many before and I was not going to let them.

This experience was indeed an awakening experience because it made me take a whole new look at myself and it also gave me insight into some of the private worlds and nightmares which many people go through on a daily basis.

I have been the saddest of the sad, the maddest of the mad, and the gladdest of the glad. I have, as a result of this incident (and all of the precipitated fallout there-from) experienced a whole gamut of emotions, which in turn give me the insight and the ability to portray powerful personalities onstage expressing those same emotions. 

Something has happened to me in the last month that has gotten me to see and say that after this great ordeal, God has given me a second chance to live my life again! Only this time, I will have some insight into where I want to go and what I want to do (be a successful actor) that I will not let myself be dissuaded or misled from my goals and dreams! 

For the record, Osho (Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh) is the most prolific author on this planet with over 650 books ( 64 million words) in print.  He is an enlightened mystic from India whose wisdom has impacted millions of people.  Even after he left his body in 1990, Osho's teachings continue to grow and inspire spiritual seekers around the world today.  He teaches us how to become a whole again, connected to Source, a more authentic human being, and someone who celebrates life passionately as well with a deep sensitivity to it.
